WebDec 17, 2024 · The peripheral blood smear stained with Wright-Giemsa shows three eosinophils and a lymphocyte. Eosinophils are a type of leukocyte in the subset known as granulocytes. It is characterized by two purple-stained lobes and pink granules throughout the cytoplasm. This differs from basophils, which have much darker and larger granules. WebWhile in general we have four vital signs, in hematology, examining the peripheral blood smear is the fifth one. Similar to the role of other vital signs, a normal peripheral blood smear is as helpful as an abnormal one in the journey to establishing a diagnosis.
