I would just smooth out the casting and a few transitions and call it good. Also do the porting first, then have the new valves sizes cut. If you port it all the way up to the valve seat ... WebMar 5, 2012 · I think these would work better to help raise compression and low end power there 200 bucks more then the dart heads but also 20cc less intake. For a street setup oval ports create more low speed torque and there are people in the tens with stock oval ports on Mark Jones engine. So if its not seeing a lot of track time would suggest these.

WebJan 9, 2011 · The stock size 2.07x1.72 valve are fine for aand even prefered for a 550hp street/strip oval port 396. The 396 cylinder bore is small and gets shrouded with larger valves in closed chamber heads. the 2.07 valves are the right valve size for your 396 with closed chamber heads. The key is correct head porting. WebMay 4, 2015 · Going to the 1.88 valve in the early heads is risky as its easy to cut into the water jacket. Remember, the Hi performance bbc heads back in the day had a 2.19/1.72 set up.
